Day 13: Bessans to Bramans

A Gallivanting Girl

Monday 22nd July
25km (260km) – 430m (1410ft) ascent – 960m (3149ft) descent

Nothing particularly exciting to report. We were forced to walk along a tediously flat woodland path for the vast majority of the day as we couldn’t get accommodation on the high route seeing as the day trippers had taken all the space. Could we camp? “Non. C’est absolutement interdit.”. The scenery did not change, it was becoming more humid by the second and the only audible sound was the chorus of bugs lurking in the grass ready to attack me. At one point we walked through a town and it started to rain a smidgen and we could hear thunder. However, Father was convinced it was fine so we continued on into an open field. The storm escalated rather rapidly from here. And yet, just as things were beginning to get desperate conveniently a cave appeared so we dashed inside. I shall say now, there is nothing more comforting than eating almonds when sitting out fork lightning, hail and monsoon-like rain – yuhmm. When it died down we continued on, passing a family wearing space blankets (who would’ve thought wearing a metal sheet could benefit ones health in an electrical storm, incredible).
