Wednesday 17th July
Distance: 18km (144km) – 1235m ascent – 825m descent
Earlier, Mother had notified us that at some point during the day we would have walk across a ridge. Before this we decided to stop in a refuge and have hot drinks and all was calm. Nevertheless, she was convinced a storm was rolling in and that we were definitely going to be blown off the ridge, and die. So we dashed outside to start walking again – I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a glorious day; there was no wind and no clouds, the vultures were singing and the marmots squeaking gleefully. Obviously she was convinced we were going to die anyway, and yet, we made it.
