Wednesday 31st July
Distance: 27km(429km), 1170m (3840ft) ascent, 1395m (4575ft) descent
Father set the alarm for six o’clock. After it went off multiple times and when we did eventually get out of bed, we proceeded to gather our things in a manner that ensured maximal rustling. Despite the day being about nine and a half hours, it was pretty pleasant apart from the descent which was scree-covered and yep you guessed it, treacherous – standard. Arrived at the gite and it looked a bit like an enlarged tin can, but inside it was supreme and our hostess was a very adventurous elderly woman who had summitted one of the fourteen 8000m peaks in the world. The walls also displayed many a photo of her paragliding and partaking in other treacherous activities. Intrepid and incredible sums her up! The food was equally as awesome as it was plentiful (much different to our situation the previous night, where a late arriving French man decided that he would eat both the extra food intended for those that didn’t get enough food because it had run out, and the food that was to run out. As a result, many went hungry as he scoffed it down. Great guy.).
