Day 29: Utelle to Aspremont

A Gallivanting Girl

Wednesday 7th August
Distance: 25km(588km), 900m (2953ft) ascent, 1220m (4003ft) descent

Brogan’s consistent singing of “One Day More” from Les Mis, combined with a colossal bruschetta at lunch powered me through the day. A fun fact Father also decided to share, while we were traversing along a steep rocky path carved out of the side of the mountain, dying in the blazing sun, sweating waterfalls in true Rudge style, was that these paths were in fact built for Napoleon! Except they used to have men hauling cannons up them (mother proposed we return the following year in order to reenact this – the idea was quickly shot down). Apparently there are some paths that were made for Wellington as well, so I guess its off to the Iberian Peninsula next summer then… woohoo. I have a feeling that tonight will be a Christmas-eve-esque night (SLEEPLESS AND EXCITED BEYOND COMPARE! ERMEGERD).
