Day 9: Plan de la Lai to Landry

A Gallivanting Girl

Thursday 18th July
29km (173km) – 1075m ascent – 2120m descent

I’m going to be honest, dinner last night was pretty grim – a slice of pork accompanied by a mysterious unidentifiable grey substance (possibly pasta). So today, when lunch was similarly disappointing (1 tomato, a lump of a stale bread and hard boiled eggs which were in fact not hard boiled, but semi raw)  we were forced to gorge ourselves on fig rolls. Bearing in mind that it rained throughout the entire 4 and a half hours of steep ascent, you can imagine how deeply dismayed I was to discover this. However, the real blow was when we stopped for a drink and dearest father informed us we still had 17km left and 7000ft of descent. Death. 6 hours later we staggered into Landry and into an incredible bed and breakfast. It was almost a 12 hour day. Joy!
