Sunday 14 July
21km (101km) – 1000m ascent – 1990m descent
We left the refuge to go deep into the vegetation, only to hike all the way back up and there was a serious amount of snow, so it was rather chilly. And yet, that didn’t seem to phase some people. For example, the group of scantily clad Scandinavians. Their ringleader? A wrinkly lady wearing a bandeau and shorts – I feel it is now necessary to thank my grandparents everyday that they do not dress like this. To actually get to the top, besides walking on the treacherous snow, we had to climb some potentially lethal ladders overhanging quite a large drop, I felt quite intrepid. The descent had the same effect as Samoéns – 3 hours of pummelled feet – and we bumped into some girls on the way with no map and no water, one of whom was wearing sandals. I reiterate: there was a lot of snow – brave soul.
