Day 11: Belorado to Agés

Camino de Santiago

27.8km (278.31km)
Tuesday 5th April

After a rather sleepless night, due to snoring (not me I hasten to add!) I was not really looking forward to my early morning walk in the rain but once out all was well. I’m finding starting to walk just a the sun comes up something I look forward to each day, even in the rain. The walk started out quite flat, running thought corn fields before it became quite steep in quite a few sections throughout the day. The path was extremely muddy for a large part of today so much so that I have had to do an emergency wash of my only walking trousers this evening, hopefully they’ll be dry (ish) by the morning or I’ll be walking in my pyjamas tomorrow. It was a bit of a trudge today, really due to the weather although the sun did appear on a few occasions to lift our spirits. The day passed quickly, chatting to various pilgrims along the way. We arrived in Agés and are staying at Albergue San Rafael – quite a strange place, but everyone is very friendly – the owner gave me a huge hug because she thought I looked cold 😱. A lot of the pilgrims whom I thought we’d lost along the way reappeared tonight, not sure where they’ve been but it was good to see them all back (they appear to be partying along the whole of the Camino). Tomorrow it’s Burgos, where many of the people I’ve been on the same itinerary with are having a rest stop so I’ll have to find some new folk to talk to and eat with…
