Day 13: Burgos to Hontanas

Camino de Santiago

31km (330.31km)
Thursday 7th April

I am having problems with the Internet 🙁 The description of today’s walk in my guidebook has ensured it will end its Camino in the bin in my room this evening. I think the author was on another walk, or maybe had the pilgrims menu every night and drank all the wine when he wrote the book. He talks of beautiful wooded areas by river banks and delightful riverside scenery – all I saw was graffiti, rubbish and highways, and I was on the correct path (honest!). I had my first lunch at a rather scary place, Tardjos and spoke to some helpful fellow walkers who told me that the next ten days are similar to today, that really lifted my spirts. They also expressed doubt regarding my itinerary, which has me reaching Santiago de Compostella on April 24 (yes guidebook to blame once again). Even if I have some long days I will make my deadline. I left Tardjos expecting the worst but the remaining 20k of the day turned out to be fine; rolling (well a wee bit rolling) hills, bright blue skies – all very bearable and enjoyable. I’m now in Hontanas, which is very rustic, a bit crumbly and quite charming – the same could be said for the Albergue where I’m staying too. Just waiting for dinner, wondering if I can muster the energy to talk to some new people…the story of my life 😊.
