33.2km (856.3km)
Tuesday 26 April
Once again we walked through the eucalyptus trees, we met an Italian pilgrim alighting from a bus, having missed a turn who ended up a few kilometres down the wrong path. A friendly bus driver had picked him up and deposited him back on the route! He spoke Italian and French but no English so I spent the morning talking in French which was great after weeks of not being able to communicate in Spanish. We decided that we were walkers, not pilgrims…he’d been walking from the north of Italy which I found surprising given that he’d lost his way almost immediately on leaving Negreira! We also met an Englishman who lives in LA whose hobby, in retirement, was walking long distances. He had done the Pacific coastal trail (3800miles?) and the Appalachian trail (2200 miles)…he’s given me some ideas for future adventures…
I was not really looking forward to Olveiroa, anticipating another Negreira but it turned out to be a well kept little village with a lot of charm 😊. The Casa Rural that we stayed in was perfect, although next time I’d probably give the Gallician stew a miss…
