Day 1: St Jean Pied de Port to Roncesvalles

Camino de Santiago

27km
Saturday 26th March

A fantastic day, blue skies – perfect for a day in the Pyrenees, but wait we’re not allowed into the mountains and have to walk along the road. We were assured this would be flat so not sure how we were supposed to go from 100m to our destination at 1040m…even on the road for most of the day it was a good day, views amazing and arrived at Roncesvalles in good time and shape (well relative to where we started) – although I’ll have to send half my pack back with Dan when he departs on Tuesday as I seem to have twice as much stuff as all the other pilgrims. I fear I was supposed to leave the iPad/Pod and phone at home and just BE….final point of interest from day one I saw no one ALL DAY except for Dan so so much for chatting all the way and making new friends.

Don’t send all your i-things back. You won’t be able to blog! Are you now back on the way as opposed to the road?

Yes we have now been mostly on paths, sometimes beside the road but all is good! Everyone is very friendly – fellow pilgrims and everyone in the villages and towns X

Well done on completing your first day. Remember to do your stretching to avoid injury. I met someone last week who plans to write a book and one of the chapters is “How to live your life without regrets”. The solution is to live in the moment. So your plan to “JUST BE” is spot on. But I agree with your mum that you should keep hold of your electronics. xxx
