Saturday April 8 – 19.4km (242.5km)
Today was notable for the fact that Pauline wanted to turn back as we reached that wonder of the world known as the A19. Given that her motto is “Better a month at the kerb than a moment in hospital” I was worried that I might die of starvation or worse miss closing time at the inn as we were still some distance from Osmotherly, our destination today, and Pauline was intent on becoming a permanent fixture on the verge. Fortunately just when I had lost hope and was going weak from hunger, a gap appeared and we made it safely across …
This was the highlight in what was otherwise a very uneventful day crossing rolling farmland until we reached the only climb at the end of the day on the edge of the North York Moors and to Osmotherly. We are staying in the Golden Lion, which has good food, good beer 🙂 and good rooms, so all is well.
Tomorrow is 32km so we are planning an early start as it promises to be a long hot day. Hopefully Pauline will sleep tonight too as she now has my lurgy and is really happy about it!
