Monday April 10 – 22.9 km (298 km)
Today was a bit of a marching day; mostly on roads and for the first 15kms through the moors. There is not much to relate but it was very peaceful and enjoyable. Interesting fact: Through the North York Moors there are many stone crosses, apparently a larger collection than anywhere else in Britain. Most of the crosses have lost their crossbars now so across the moor there are large prominent stones everywhere.
We reached the village of Glaisdale around lunch time and I’d checked and double checked that the tea room was open at the time we were passin. Unfortunately it had closed down without letting Google know 😢, all was not lost though as a helpful neighbour rushed to our assistance, as we searched for the would be tea room, and directed us to the nearby pub – thank goodness for nosey neighbours 🙂 . After lunch we only had five kilometres remaining before arriving at Grosmont. Just before Grosmont  we went through a little village, Egton Bridge, which is apparently one of Yorkshire’s most beautiful. It is renowned for its Roman Catholicism, so strong that is was known as ‘the village missed by the Reformation’ , so my trusty guide book informs me. It is also the birthplace of Nicholas Postgate, The Martyr of the Moors…
Grosmont is a lovely little village and Dan is particularly taken with the steam engines 🙂
