Day 8: Reeth to Richmond

Coast to Coast

Thursday April 6 – 17.9 (198.1 km)
The sun continued to shine throughout the day and the ground was once again easy underfoot. Today was much the same as yesterday, with most of the day spent walking across rolling pastureland populated by sheep and young lambs. We passed a few impressive buildings; Grinton Lodge (once a shooting lodge and now a youth hostel), Marrick Priory (was a 12th century Benedictine Priory occupied by nuns from 1154 until Henry VIII came along…and is now an outward bound centre). Just after the priory there was a steep ascent known as the nuns causeway linking the priory to Marrick village…we reckon they must have been very fit wee nuns (thinking of nuns next door the mum and dads and imagining them hiking up the hills :)). We were in Richmond before we knew it, an easy day. We’re staying in ‘Williance Guest House’ a great B and B. Just been out for a quick tour of the lovely town, followed by an Italian. Looking forward to another day in the sun, walking seems easy when the sun is on one’s back :).

Both looking good and happy though you’re probably finding the going too easy! Hope the weather keeps up. Mum
