Day 14: Hostal Asturias – Baños de Montemayor

Via de la Plata

Thurday 12th April 2018

21 km (372.4 km)

Hostal Asturias, my accommodation last night, was a very good example of don’t judge a book by its cover (see photo below). It’s basically a truck stop on a busy road but it was perfect and certainly deserves it’s high rating on booking.com. The staff couldn’t do enough for the walkers, good food, comfortable beds and great heating…the previous night we all froze in our respective albergues. This morning promised a lot of rain so with the poncho at hand I set out in the dark to try and stay ahead of the rain. There were a few showers but no torrential rain. That said it was a very wet day; the rain from the last few days making the path for the first 11km turn into, at times, a fast flowing river. There was nothing for it but to wade through at some points knee deep in water. At Aldeaneuva de Camino I had a quick coffee and then spent the remaining 11km wallking along a busy road flapping my poncho whenever a vehicle approached, not the most pleasant of walks. I arrived at Baños de Montemayor to find an interesting little Roman spa town, with thermal pools to boot. I am staying in Case Rural con encanto De Los postigos, a lovely quirky little Cass rural. My room is great apart from the huge painting, hanging incongrously on my bedroom wall, of Salome with the head of St John the Baptist…I’ve had my usual menu del dia and I am having a day off to visit the medical centre tomorrow to get some advice on my lovely troublesome feet. If all is well after that I’ll have a short day or take the bus to my proposed destination….it all depends on what tomorrow brings.

No way over with dry feet…

Boris g road walk but with great mountain views

Lovely restive painting…

Weather sounds similar to here in Faro.I hope your feet get the medical attention they need tomorrow. You have great resolve. Carry on and can’t wait to hear all about it on your return. X
