Thursday 29th March
18,2 km (41 km)
We were up early and out just as the sun was rising this morning, around 7:45. Today was an easy 18km amble through orange groves and olive trees followed by a lovely open area of cork and holm oaks full of cattle and horses grazing peacefully. It looked at first as though the final 3km into town was along a busy road, fortunately however a small parallel path soon appeared taking us into Castilblanco de los Arroyos and the municipal albergue, our home for the night. Today’s “Pilgrim’s Menu” was tremendous value; 3 courses plus wine/beer: €8 and quite edible. We are now waiting for the local Spar and pharmacy to open, hopefully at 5pm but there is some talk that the shops are now shut until Monday. Semana Santa (Holy Week) is the highlight of the year in Spain, we are just hoping we can buy some food for our 30km day tomorrow.

March 29, 2018 at 8:55 pmIt all looks lovely so far but I don’t see any other pilgrims! Tomorrow, being Good Friday, is a day of fast and abstinence, so you might have difficulty finding tapas! You both look very relaxed and happy- not a drop of petrol in sight! Love Mum
