Day 16: El Cubo del Vino – Zamora

Via de la Plata

Monday 16th April 2018

31.8 km (440.6 km)

Another long day, similar to other days in terms of terrain but a perfect day weather wise; blue skies and slight breeze all day kept the spirits up. There was only one village on the way to Zamorra, Villanueva de Campeán but at 13km it was too early to stop so there was no choice but to continue. You arrive at Zamora walking over the medieval bridge over the Douro River, all very lovely even on tired feet after 8 hours walking. The city is beautiful and I even managed to sight see for a while…Zamora also has one of the best pilgrim hostels in the Vía de la Plata apparently but I’m on the to top bunk, which is always a problem for anyone over 50 I feel, so it won’t be on my list of best albergues unless I get an upgrade to a low bunk! There are lots if pilgrims here all in a big happy bunch eating and drinking together speaking a mix of Italian, French, Spanish, German and English it’s amazing listening to the conversations switching:). They have been trying to include me but my trying to explain midges was not doing much for the Scottish tourist board for sure!

Feet have been good today, hopefully they are now on the road to recovery…

Sooooo glad the feet are feeling better ! And that you’ve met up with some other ‘pilgrims’ ….. The terrain does look a bit uninteresting – does it improve soon? The photos are great, and the blog – keep it up! Love Mum x
