Day 21: Santa Marta de Tera – Mombuey

Via de la Plata

Saturday 21st April 2018

37km (570.1km)

We were up and off today around 7am as it was long day and it looked like it might be hot too. Yesterday evening we’d bought supplies at the local shop which we were given very detailed instructions on how to find it. We had to ring a doorbell and them were ushered through a seemingly normal family home to a fully stocked little store …I’m not sure why this is, as all the guide books explain how to find the shop so why is it such a secret?

The guide book and the web app both detailed many stops along the way today so I left with a spring in my step knowing there were many coffee con leches en route. After 11km we came to the first dead village, the bar opening around 11 so we continued to the next one where we could have a coffee but they sold no food at all, not even crisps. The only place to get food was after 27km so Marianne and I stopped for some pinxos and coffee before the final 10km. We has been warned that the Albergue in Mombuey was nasty and infested (!!) so had booked the only hotel in the town. We arrived at 4:30, Daniel was already here, my feet incredibly intact after 37km. We were informed that dinner was at 9 so made do with sandwiches and wine. Tomorrow is another 30+km day, here’s hoping the feet continue to be problem free :).
