Boring Day
We started off in full waterproofs this morning with the forecast for rain all day. Eventually, after several hours of rain free skies I did remove the poncho. Try as hard as I could I could not keep up with Marian today and so after 8km we bid her farewell. She is meeting a friend today and will now move more slowly so we probably won’t see her again. Although I have a feeling we will meet again. The day was short but fairly uneventful; passing through suburbs and industrial estates before arriving at our lovely hotel.
Train Ride
We decided to take a wee tourist train to get a feel for the city, surprisingly this cost a meagre 85 cents. I did comment that in Salamanca there were commentaries in Spanish, English, French and German but not on this train. It transpired that this was no tourist train, although I don’t think we were alone in thinking it was. This was a normal little transport link to the thermal baths. We arrived at the baths waited ten minutes and then went back to Ourense, exciting stuff! Did we not notice that nearly all the other passengers had towels tucked under their arms? No! Our trip, we surmised, was the equivalent of taking the 38 bus from Glasgow road in Paisley to the lagoon public baths travelling at a speed of 5km per hour , wondering why there was no commentary 🙂 and wondering why we hadn’t passed any places of historical importance or interest…
After a great dinner of pulpos and local white wine we headed back to the hotel where I have spent the last hour or so booking hotels for the last few nights…no more albergues on this trip!
