Sunday April 1st 2018 (Easter Sunday)
20,2 km (125.4 km)
After a leisurely breakfast of “café con leche y jamon”, presumably a local staple given that there is even a museum dedicated to jamon in the town, we made a rather late start at 8:15. It was short day, of around 20km but even in that short distance there were tremendous differences in the scenery; the manicured park lands giving way to open plains and rolling hills appearing on the horizon. On arrival into Funetos De Cantos we were accosted by a hospitalerio encouraging us to take a short cut to his albergue, but us being us we took the long (correct!) route marked by yellow arrows to arrive at his establishment… It is lovely and we have a tiny double room which means no scrabbling around in the dark in a dorm whilst attempting to make an early start tomorrow. We headed out for a quick lunch and luckily arrived at the only open restaurant, arriving just before (what would appear to be) the entire population of the town. A quick menu del dia was followed by the first clothes washing of the trip (at least we shouldn’t upset any dogs tomorrow!) then a wee siesta before heading out to see the evening’s Easter procession…I’m thinking more floats?
