Day 11: Middleton-in-Teesdale to Langdon Beck

Pennine Way

15.5 km (258.92 km) – Thursday 14th July Today was almost a rest day, being short and relatively flat. We spent most of the walk walking along near a river. We passed the local landmarks, Lower and High force waterfalls, Joanne went for a paddle along the way too – I was at the ready beside the life saving ring to jump in and save her had she slipped (or at least throw the ring in her general direction).  I misread my GPS, I am not even sure how that is possible but I did, and thought we were at a different point than we were on the route so we left the Pennine Way too early to reach Langdon Beck Hotel. We ended up having to climb along and over a dry stane dyke, having to go through lots of fields, under some barbed wire, through a hole in a fence and finally through a farm before reaching our final destination. On leaving the farm we saw a large sign indicating that there was CCTV in operation, we’re hoping they will be more bewildered and amused by two middle aged women commando crawling through their fields than actually thinking we were a threat to their livestock.  The hotel is in a perfect setting, I think a leisurely afternoon is in order to prepare for the relatively harsh day tomorrow.
