Day 15: Greenhead to Haydon Bridge

Pennine Way

19 km (366.42 km) – Monday 18th July.

Daniel blog: Today was a short day, so we didn’t stop for lunch and had few rest stops. Unfortunately the guide booked was less than accurate and our 12km turned into 19km on a hot steamy day along Hadrian’s Wall. We started at Greenhead, heading east towards the Roman Fort at Housesteads. The weather forecast promised sunshine, but the cloud cover just meant it was hot and steamy. I think this explains why I was burnt to a crisp when the sun finally did appear (rather than my failure to apply sun cream). Beyond the unexpected distance the popularity of Hadrian’s wall brought other problems, namely difficulty in finding suitable toilet stops 😳. Finished the day with a cup of coffee and an ice cream then took a taxi to Haydon Bridge, to be deposited back at the same point tomorrow morning.
