Day 11

RAAM 2009

June 27th

Daniel had a fantastic day on Saturday. He is still smiling and still peddaling!!. I (Pauline) left on Saturday to fly to Annapolis to be there at the finish line. I am sure quite a few others wish we were there too!!

After the usual 6 hour break Daniel started his final cycle (final for a week or so at least!) this morning. It’s 8am (EDT) and he has 180 miles to go. He wants to finish today so all going well he should pull in to Annapolis between 8pm and midnight…

Dan has the bit between his teeth and has been cycling since 5am with one aim, to finish today. It looks like he’ll make it somewhere between 21:00 and 22:00. The RV has arrived in Annapolis with some of the crew, we’lll make our way to finish line and greet them when they come in. Happy Birthday to crew member Anne for today. I have a strange feeling celebrating the race and celebrating birthdays may be put on hold until tomorrow.

All very quiet in the blogosphere…Hanover – Mt Airy – Odenton – Annapolis….maybe we are all holding our breath.

I am reading a paper version of the Sunday Times (as opposed to online). Great article on David Millar but, as you told me, the Tour is a relatively short drafting race. The solo RAAM is the ultimate race of truth. Alot of people are learning from what you and the team are demonstrating.

Big, big respect from all the Stewarts – we salute you!

Wonderful last couple of days! I lost connection with the tracker for hours and when I got it back I was amazed how far you had come!!
You must almost be able to smell the finish line!! Glory days!!

    We're so proud of you.

Waiting for the word that you have completed the Race. Awesome job! Look forward to hearing all the details when you get home. A long hot shower, a real bed and no wake-up alarm in 3-4 hours – great things to look forward to!! Of course, once this is done, what's the next challenege?

    Daniel,
very well done seems such an understatement – many congratulations. We suspect Pauline actually hopes you have got this one out of your system but we look forward to finding out what your next adventure might be!

    Daniel
What can I say… you did it!!!!
Followed you in the pre-ride training (literally) and through the last 11 days or so, with real time text and telephone updates.
You never faltered for a minute
Always new you'd do it…and you did
    spectacularly so….with a sprint finish
Must be down to Jay and the crew, and the effort they put into it too

    Real-life awaits

    Congrats
