Day 17 – Tui to Redondela

Camino Portugués

Saturday 16th April

31km (420 km)

1, 2 skip a few 99, 100!

I decided last night that I would bypass the first 10km this morning as it seemed to pass along many roads, over railway lines and through an industrial zone. There has been an improvement in the route but I have found on this Camino that any rerouting is a bit haphazard so as it’s my Camino I decided to hop on a bit. Once in the taxi, the taxi driver suggested I just start my 31km day at Mos, leaving a very short 10k! It didn’t take much persuasion so that is what I did. Hopped out of the taxi at noon and was in Rebondela shortly after 2! Staying in a lovely Albergue but really hoping no one is in the bunk above me!

Viaducts and beaches

Rebondela is apparently a delightful town but I could not find much to delight about! The enthusiastic hospitilario gave me instructions on how to find some waterfalls and how to get to the beach. I did not follow him up on either suggestion because they seemed to involve a lot of walking! I made it to the old town and I will venture out later to see if can find the two 19th-century viaducts that the town is famous for. No more taxis are required, I have around 85 km left and 4 days of walking so that should all be very manageable.

The 100km pilgrims

There were many more pilgrims today, indeed throngs of them all skipping along with fresh feet and light bags. The last 100 kilometres attract a lot more interest than the first 500.
