Day 15: La Franca to Llanes

Camino del Norte

22km (395.3 km)
Tuesday 20 June 2017
I had a bit of a lie in today and didn’t leave the Albergue until around 7:30, thinking it was a short day so the heat wouldn’t be such a problem. As it turned out the short day of 22km felt like 50 as the temperatures rose to around 30 degrees. As usual there was a lot of road walking, which means the blisters can’t recover from one day to the next as the feet are being continually bashed with the hard road surface. The route stayed near the coast all day and although not always visible it was certainly near enough to feel the well needed and much appreciated sea breeze. My photos do not do justice to the magnificent coast line and certainly not to the Picos de Europa which we seem to be getting nearer to.

Today there were very few villages and towns on the route, therefore no coffee stops, so we quickly arrived in Llanes; the trendiest , hippest (?) stop along the Norte, so my Guide book says…this may be true but it isn’t saying much. It is beautiful, with great beaches and many attractive streets and buildings…once again I have to say that I’ll come back one day  and revisit because as soon as we arrive at our destination all I want to do is take my boots off, find some food and lie down. Tomorrow is a 34 degree day and 30km to Ribadesella so it’s an early night and early rise.
The phone continues to overheat so I am using it sparingly and keeping my fingers crossed that it makes it through the next 16 days.

Bon courage or the Spanish equivalent, Pauline. I can feel the pain in the feet and the concern about the phone. Make sure there is no fire hazard –ie with the phone, not the feet. Great photos and see clearly why you would want o go back. Love, Dad
