Day 20: Avilés to Soto de Luña

Camino del Norte

24km (539.3km)

Sunday 25 June 2017
I was ready to leave for my 40k day this morning at around 5:30 but my blisters were already sore and I had a new one as well. I decided that if I walked all day on all these blisters I may not walk another day on the Camino so I made the decision to go 15km on the train and start walking from Soto Del Barco, along with two australians – Carol and Robyn. The route had many very steep ascents and descents and after a coffee at Muros de Nalón there was very little chance to grab eat or drink. Once again the route was mostly on the road, interspersed with dirt tracks but as the stage moved through a lush, expansive valley it was still a pleasant enough walk and the day seemed to be over before too long. Sota de Luña is very pilgrim friendly and the restaurants and cafes are all smiles when they see us…this is certainly not the case in all establishments along the way. There are apparently many interesting architectural sights and monuments here, but as usual it’s not the right time for sight seeing, so once again I’ll have to say I’ll pass this way another time.
