Day 26: Lourenza to Gontan

Camino del Norte

27km (693.3km)
Saturday July 1 2017
Today’s walk was beautiful, in perfect conditions with nothing to complain about (except the usual 😜). The route was fairly hilly but apparently we took the low route, it still seemed hilly enough to me though! The route climbed into the hills and down into the lovely town of Mondonedo (one of the seven capitals of Gallicia, apparently – it’s old town has been declared a national cultural-historic site with an impressive 13th century cathedral (eagle eyed Robyn pointed out that the adjoining building with double glazing and a modern frontage was probably added later:)). After Mondonedo we climbed again but the climb was hardly noticeable given the fantastic views, perfect weather and my ‘movie themes’ playlist. We arrived in Gontan early enough to bag three beds at the Albergue but only one bottom bunk for the invalid with the sore arm; Carol and I had to climb into top bunks…I did try to make enough noise to garner some sympathy from the pilgrims half our age taking up all the lower bunks ( because they can walk faster than us) but to no avail so I’m stuck on the top, pilgrim problems!
Tomorrow was supposed to be a 40k day for me but I’ve decided to do another short day of 20k before a longer one of 34.5k on Monday, hopefully my feet will have rejuvenated by then…there’s suffering in silence and then there’s me complaining to everyone and anyone, as if no one else has ever had a blister! Tonight’s main problem is no internet and no sockets for charging phones, I’m thinking these are modern day pilgrim problems. Anyway five days to go and counting. I’m not sure when I’ll have enough Internet to post my photos and I’m just hoping my phone doesn’t die before I’ve downloaded them, again probably a modern day problem…

This evening I stayed up to put all the photos from the last five days onto the blog, when one finds some wifi one must grab it as who knows where the next wifi might be 😱
